you guys and gals are a hoot
Surfing around friends of friends of friends and I found this place.  I couldn't stop reading.  The comments were great.  Good to see a pagan community that dislikes RSW as much as me.

There are even dumb-ass Jewitches!
I swear, every now and then the worst kind of know-it all High Muckety Muck of Wiccan lore makes me want bang their head into a wall repeatedly.

Particularly amusing portions of the text have been bolded, emphasis mine.

Names are changed to protect the completely pompous and moronic. This is off one of my jewitch lists.Collapse )

And the person replies to me...Collapse )

Couldn't have put it better myself, you ponce.

All I wanted was some sage
So I went to my local pagan shop topick up some sage. They have decent stock and all in all it's a pretty neat store with interesting stock. Little did I know it was oppression day at the Mystic Goddess. After the bell tinkled and I entered I was immediately stared at with half suspicious looks from a few girls with boxes of what looked like T-shirts or cloaks. I gave Mike, (the owner) a friendly hello and noticing his fixed polite-but-not-really-meaning-it expression, scurried over to his shelves of herbs and such. While browsing one of the girls came over and in a belligerent tone asked me "You are Wiccan right?"

This is a meme/quiz I want to see.
I got told yesterday of a meme wherein a person picks a metal, a bird and an animal and the generator creates your "pagan name" for you.

Frankly, I'd like to see this, I suspect the oft-mentioned Silver RavenWolf did this one. But I can't find it yet.

Lookie here!

The first sentence: "Blue Star Wicca is a centuries-old tradition founded in the 1970's in the suburbs of Philadelphia."

Wait. how many centuries?

Founded when?

perhaps this was covered already, but has anyone seen This?

Covers a lot of the same points we've seen before, but has a lot more vitriol, and it seems like he's involved in a lot of the ceremonial magic stuff, himself.

But for pure snarkyness, check out the Website Parody he created.

Oh, the humanity.
I know it’s not cool to bash Christians simply for their beliefs, but I feel that Snarky-ness crosses all borders (cross-posted in earfatigue):

Does YHWH really give a shit about this?Collapse )

The theological implications are staggering, if not slightly ridiculous.

This one just worries me.
I found this on the Seattle Craig'slist. Am I the only one who's worried by this guy's ethics or lack thereof?

This is the Bio from spellsandmagick.com. Which, incidently, tried to burn my retinas out with it's neon font and flashing lights. Whoo hoo. Bleeding eyes can really freak your cats out by the way. Not to mention the loud piercing screams that follow.

First let me tell you that I am a True "Master of the Occult Arts".
My spiritual name is Puzuzu. And no... not "Pazuzu" from the Necronomicon. My name is spelled different and has a totally different meaning.
How old am I? I am older than dirt. When I say I am older then dirt I mean "I am an old soul who has lived many, many lifetimes on this sphere and others. As far as my life this time, I am Physically 45 years old. This is my last life on this plane, for I will not be back again.
I am not from this Sphere of existence. I am what you would come to know as an Avatar... for I am a cross breed of Arcturian and Pleiadian. I have incarnated from the Star System Pleiades to Earth in human form. This is my last life for incarnation... for I have paid all my Karmic debts and I will not return to the Physical world again.
In this lifetime I have travelled and lived in many places in the world. I have studied all aspects of the Occult for many, many years. My special interests are the Kabbala (Cabbala), High Magic, Black Magic and the Invoking and Conjuring of Spirits along with channelling and recording Angelic Space Music.

=blank stare=

And someone sent me this as "a really great site". They have now been blocked. Permanantly.

Religious Studies
I know it's annoying when you meet someone who spouts off things like, "I worshipped Quetzacoatl and Thor last week; tomorrow, I'm invoking Diana," but what is the proper use of comparative religious studies? Isn't it helpful to realize that Coyote, Loki, & Choronzon share certain characteristics? Or not? I mean, I know it can sometimes seem like a vain exercise of one-uppsmanship ("I can list off more pagan Gods than you"), but has anyone ever ben helped by comparing Greek, Roman, & Native American God forms?

And when do you think it's cool to add Jungian Archetypes to the mix, or to apply James Frazer's theories, or even moder psychology/nerology? Is it ever? Sometimes it sems odd not to put everything we know into into our religion.

Chants, Invocations, etc
As a musician, and a drummer at that, I have a hard time with all these friggin sing-song rhymed couplets. To me, they have no emotional resonance, no, well, POWER behind them. I'd rather chant IO EVOHE, PANPHAGE PANGENITOR over and over than "Spirits of North, Eyes full of Light/Spirits of South, Shining so Bright".

I know, it's my choice to worship how I choose, which is probably one reason I'm a solitary. But that's also one of the things that drove me away from group work.

For supposedly divinely inspired writings, it's pretty weak. Perhaps we should all just recite Blake & Yeats.

Quick question for everyone
Am I the only person who cringes when I hear some of the "pagan" terms like blessed be and merry meet? I've read several things about where they came from but I can't help but feel dirty if I say them. Should I chalk these terms up to another thing prostituted? Or cringe and say them instead of hello and goodbye?

Bboard Wicca!
More on that Magic with a K stuff, and those who totally heart $ilver Ravenwolf:

Such little gems as:

moneik, witch craft 101, spelling. it's magick, not magic. magic is pulling rabbits out of hats and card tricks. magick is the real deal, spells, ancient wicca

Ok so just read very quickly this thread. if your into wicca and the spells (mainly its about visulisaition and positive enery and how to focus that) try typing in on google witchcraft 101. dont pay people for spells or trainging if you do that you wont learn. This site helps with some of the basic rules. after that spell books, hitory of wicca and related topics go so far as herbal medicine, salem witch trials etc. then try other websites on the net. DONT go asking to jpin a coven if you find 1 1 you dont know what there into if they can be trusted and any self respecting coven wouldnt take you as it takes a long time to itrigate you into the coven.
blessed be

Another neat site
Can't remember if this is already posted, but check out Wicca For The Rest Of Us.

My only objection is: Hey! I do play D&D! And I'm anti-social!
